| Castle Rising | 24 May 1777 – 27 Apr. 1782 |
Ld. of Trade Dec. 1781 – May 1782.
Talbot was returned for Castle Rising on the interest of Lord Suffolk, and voted with North’s Administration to the end. There is no record of his having spoken in the House. North in 1778 considered asking him to move the Address, but feared he would decline ‘from observing the marks of dislike towards the present Administration that Lord Talbot has often publicly shown’. In 1780 North suggested him for the office of vice-chamberlain to the Queen, and in 1781 Talbot was appointed a lord of Trade—probably from consideration for his uncle.1Fortescue, iv. 215; v. 172. He remained in office until the Board was abolished by the Rockingham Administration in 1782.
In the Lords Talbot voted against Fox’s East India bill and with Pitt on the Regency. He died 19 May 1793.
- 1. Fortescue, iv. 215; v. 172.
