biography text

Winnington sat at Droitwich on the Foley interest. He voted steadily against North’s Administration; opposed Shelburne and supported the Coalition; and opposed Pitt. There is no record before 1790 of his having spoken in the House. He died 9 Jan. 1805. In his obituary notice in the Gentleman’s Magazine (1805, p. 91) he was described as ‘a gentleman eminent for his attainments in literature’.
