Aldridge owed his Ordnance place and his seat in the Parliament of 1784 to his friend and neighbour the 3rd Duke of Richmond. It was Richmond, too, who supported and secured ministerial countenance for his successful candidature for Shoreham in 1790—he had been defeated there in 1774 and 1784. He made no mark in the ensuing Parliament, appearing only as a teller on the Poor Laws, 26, 31 May 1791. He was listed hostile to the repeal of the Test Act in Scotland that session.
