The year 1790 was a momentous one for Peregrine Bertie. On 7 May he married. On 16 June he was again returned for Oxford on the interest of his elder brother Lord Abingdon (a supporter of Pitt), despite his having voted against the ministry over the Regency in 1788-9. On 22 June he made his will, bequeathing his real estate, in default of issue (his wife was over 40) to Lord Abingdon. On 20 Aug., before Parliament met, he died and was buried at Weston, under a stone ‘with ship, quadrant and compass engraved thereon, and a proper inscription for me as a captain in the navy’, as he desired. His will made provision for his natural daughter by Elizabeth Cox, his servant at Weston.2PCC 413 Bishop.
