LETHIEULLIER, Benjamin (1729-97), of Belmont, Mdx. and Middleton, Hants.

Lethieullier continued to sit for Andover on the interest of his half-brother Joshua Iremonger and to give a silent support to Pitt, though he remained, in 1791, favourable to the repeal of the Test Act. On 18 Sept. 1795 he reminded the premier that he had been applying to him for ‘many years’ for a prebend for his nephew Lascelles Iremonger: ‘I must say, that I thought myself entitled to more attention from a government I have from principle always wished to support’. His nephew at length obtained the prebend in 1797. Lethieullier, an investor in East India Company stock, voted against the abolition of the slave trade, 15 Mar. 1796. He did not attend his re-election in 1796 and his death on 5 Dec. 1797 ended his family’s association with the borough.1PRO 30/58151, ff. 258-268; 195. f. 106.
