In 1807 Bisshopp, following in his father’s footsteps, contested New Shoreham, but was defeated. He had to wait until 1811 for his seat for Newport on the interest of (Sir) Leonard Thomas Worsley Holmes. He is not reported to have spoken but evidently supported government—more especially as his father was at this time pressing strongly for the Zouche peerage. He was in their minorities on sinecure questions, 24 Feb. and 4 May 1812. Subsequently Bisshopp was on military service in Canada and did not seek re-election. He was killed, 11 July 1813, in an engagement with the Americans at Black Rock.
