Truro | 1807 – 11 Feb. 1808 |
Ensign 2 Ft. Gds. 1805 – 08.
Boscawen was returned for Truro on his father’s nomination the day before his 20th birthday: nine months later he succeeded to the title and there is no indication of parliamentary activity in this brief interlude.1Perhaps he never took his seat. J. Wilson, Biog. Index (1808), 611. His father had bequeathed to him the patronage of Truro and of one seat at Mitchell, and the preservation of these remnants of the family’s once more imposing electoral interest in Cornwall became one of his main objects: by returning supporters of administration, he hoped to persuade Lord Liverpool to secure him an earldom and he was bitterly disappointed when overlooked in 1815,2Add. 38262, f. 89. but received it in 1821. He died 29 Dec. 1841.
