biography text

Gage sat briefly for Warwick on the interest of the 2nd Earl of Warwick. A few weeks before Parliament met he had been designated heir by special remainder to his uncle’s peerage, a subject on which he had importuned the prime minister.2PRO 30/8/138, f. 3. Returned as a friend of government, he made no mark in the House, apart from being reckoned hostile to the repeal of the Test Act in Scotland in 1791. Later that year he succeeded to the title. He died 29 Jan. 1808.
