The Taunton MP of 1442 has not been identified, but he probably came from a local family. In 1450 one Richard Sylke, perhaps a son or other kinsman, set his seal to the Somerset county electoral indenture, and the same man was about that time serving as bailiff of the Somerset hundreds of Somerton and Pitney.1 C219/16/1; KB9/105/228.
