biography text
Although the careers of other members of the Twyneho family of the fifteenth century are well documented, little is known of Bartholomew, who was returned to the Parliament of 1447 for Melcombe Regis, while his kinsman William appeared as a representative for Shaftesbury.1 C219/15/4. Styled a gentleman, in 1444 Bartholomew was said to reside at his family’s traditional home at Keyford in Somerset. That year he was accused by Walter, Lord Hungerford†, of having without permission hunted in his free warren at Upton Scudamore in Wiltshire and helped himself to rabbits, pheasants and partriches.2 CP40/732, rot. 55d.
