CUTHBERT, Richard (by 1532-55 or later), of Long Riston, Yorks.

Richard Cuthbert belonged to a northern family which claimed arms. He lived at Long Riston in Holderness, where in 1553 he was assessed for the subsidy on goods worth £20. By trade he was a merchant who probably shipped his goods through the port of Hedon. His election there on three consecutive occasions under Mary was perhaps favoured by a neighbour, Sir John Constable, whose own Membership for the borough alternated with Cuthbert’s. Nothing else has been discovered about Cuthbert, although several namesakes can be traced later in the century.
