Loveband was elected to Parliament on 4 Nov. 1554 by the deputy of Calais and his council. After his replacement as collector in 1555 he is not heard of again at Calais: it is not known whether he had died or had left the town, perhaps following dismissal during the religious purge ordered by the Queen and carried out by William Herbert I, 1st Earl of Pembroke. He had not given offence by absenting himself without leave from Parliament before its dissolution in the previous January.3P. T. J. Morgan, ‘The govt. of Calais 1485-1558’ (Oxf. Univ. D. Loveband may have belonged to a family known to have been settled in Devon by the close of the 16th century: it was then of rather low status but was to lift itself later.4Vis. Devon, ed. Vivian, 634.
