Fowey | 1586 |
Comptroller of tin stamping, Cornw. and custodian of Lostwithiel gaol c.1584–1603.
Bonython was the heir of a country gentleman who owned tin works named Carclew mills. He had a local stannary appointment, and engaged in at least one mercantile adventure, two of his ‘partners in the bargain’ being Captain John Killigrew and Mr. Peter Killigrew. His return for Fowey is explained by his sister Alice’s marriage to John Rashleigh. Bonython was drowned 21 Jan. and buried 24 Jan. 1604. His widow was granted the administration of his goods. His father’s will was proved in June of that year.1E. G. Bonython, Hist. Farms. Bonython of Bonythan and Banython of Carcdew (privately 1966); Vivian, Vis.
