Byng presumably obtained his parliamentary seat at Rochester through local influence, possibly supported by Lord Cobham. An executor of Secretary Davison’s will, Byng died intestate at Wrotham 17 July 1616, administration of his estate being granted to his son George the following 12 Feb.1Vis. Kent (Harl.
