Cromwell was returned at Huntingdon through his family influence. As Member for Huntingdon he was eligible to attend the committee on draining the fens (3 Dec. 1597). In 1600 he was living at Godmanchester with his elder brother Oliver who that year assigned him his lease of Gaynes Park. Cromwell’s return for Lostwithiel in 1601 can be attributed to Sir Robert Cecil. At the time of his death in 1628 Cromwell was probably living with Oliver at Ramsey. He was buried at Upwood 29 Oct., and his will was proved in the archdeaconry court of Huntingdon in the same year.1VCH Hunts. ii. 68-72, 362; iii. 14; D’Ewes, 567; E315/309, f. 121; Hunts.
