biography text

Edwards was a clothier who moved to Worcester from the borders of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. The cathedral accounts for 1543-4 contain several references to him as bailiff of the Hardwick (where he owned property), Iccomb and Milton districts, and he had the advowson at Wolverley, where he presented in 1545. He is not mentioned in the known proceedings of the 1559 Parliament. He made his will in October of that year and it was proved 3 June following. He asked for a funeral sermon on the subject of the remission of man’s sin in Christ, to be preached by ‘Mr. Hall if he will take the pains, or some other learned man’.1PCC 38 Mellershe; Worcester Guildhall, audit of city accts. 1540-1600; Early Education in Worcester (Worcs.
