Morice seems to have been more ambitious than his father, who passed over to him a duchy of Cornwall post on his grandfather’s death. He regained the family seat at Newport in 1681, no doubt as a supporter of the country party, since he displaced an opponent of exclusion, William Coryton. He was re-elected in 1685, but left no trace on the records of either Parliament. In June 1688 the King’s agents expected him to retain his seat, but his health had long given cause for alarm, and he was buried at Werrington in the same month. His widow married Charles Trelawny.
