Returned for Grampound on the Prince of Wales’s interest, Banks consistently voted with the Opposition. Having in 1745 contracted a fever which deprived him of the use of his lower limbs,1Letters and Pprs. Banks Fam. ed. Hill (Lincoln Rec. Soc. xlv), p. xxxi; Add. 39167, ff. 176-8. he did not stand for Parliament again. The father of Sir Joseph Banks, the eminent botanist, he died in 1761 (buried 1 Oct.).
