A brave officer,2Gent. Mag. 1749, p. 284. who distinguished himself at the battle of Malplaquet, Beake was appointed captain lieutenant in the Horse Guards through the interest of its colonel, the Duke of Argyll,3Dalton, English Army Lists, vi. 326 n. 14. rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Returned for St. Ives on the Hobart interest in 1741, he voted consistently with the Government. He fought at Dettingen and at Fontenoy, where he was wounded, becoming lieutenant governor of Jersey shortly afterwards. He died 19 June 1749.
