biography text

After contesting Heytesbury unsuccessfully in 1722, Buckworth was returned for Weobley in 1734, voting against the Government in both the recorded divisions of that Parliament. He did not stand in 1741 and was defeated at Weobley in 1747, when he joined with Lord Perceval, afterwards the 2nd Lord Egmont. According to Egmont’s electoral survey he should have been acceptable to the electors,

having paid them honourably and keeping up his acquaintance with them, but they have always apprehensions of him at the last, having compromised so often.

He died 31 Dec. 1758.
