biography text
Calmady, a Tory lawyer, was descended from Vincent Calmady, an attorney, who purchased Langdon from the Crown in 1555 and whose son acquired Leawood by marriage.1B. H. Williams, Ancient West Country Families, i. 46. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries his family had represented Plympton and Okehampton. Returned for Saltash on the Buller interest in 1715, he voted against the Administration in all recorded divisions but did not stand again. He died 8 Jan. 1731.
