The De La Beres, an old Herefordshire family, acquired an estate near Southam by marriage, purchasing the manor in 1609.1Bristol & Glos. Arch. Soc. Trans. l. 304-5; Fenwick Metcalfe, Vis. Glos. 56-57, 176-7. Kinard De La Bere, one of the trustees of his brother-in-law Thomas Stephens,2PCC 122 Shaller. was returned for the county as a government supporter with the backing of the Stephens family, but did not stand again. He died 13 Feb. 1735, leaving his property to his nephew William Baghot De La Bere.
