Warburton was the son of an ‘eminent dissenting teacher’ and the maternal great-grandson of Peter Warburton of Hefferstone Grange, chief justice of Chester.1Ormerod, Cheshire, ii. 174. Returned unopposed at Chester as a Tory in 1742, he was one of the magistrates who examined the Young Pretender’s messenger carrying a letter to Lord Barrymore.2SP Dom. 36/73, no. 32 (13). Voting against the Government in all the recorded divisions, he was classed as Opposition on re-election in 1747, did not stand in 1754, and died 16 Aug. 1760.
