The head of an ancient Lancashire family, with an income of ‘near £2,000 per annum’,1Gent. Mag. 1735, p. 219. Hesketh was returned for Preston in 1722 in succession to, and with the support of, Henry Fleetwood. ‘Very much a Tory’,2E. Hamilton to Sunderland, undated, Sunderland (Blenheim) mss. he was a member of the local Jacobite club.3C. Hardwick, Preston, 252. He did not stand again, dying 18 Apr. 1735.
