Sir Robert Laurie was nephew (through ‘Annie Laurie’) of Alexander Fergusson of Craigdarroch. Brought in for Dumfries Burghs by his father-in-law, Charles Areskine, at a by-election in 1738, he voted with the Administration on the Spanish convention in 1739 and the place bill of 1740, but did not stand again. He died 28 Apr. 1779.
