Mussenden was returned for Harwich on the interest of his brother, Carteret Leathes. Like his brother he supported the Administration till the end of 1743, when they both voted with the Opposition on the Hanoverians. He again voted against the Hanoverians in 1744,2Owen, Pelhams, 202, 208. losing his place on the formation of the Broad-bottom Government in December. He abstained from voting on them in 1746. Never standing again, he died 23 Nov. 1772, leaving his property to his brother.
