Noel, whose family had acquired Kirkby Mallory by marriage in the sixteenth century, was a Jacobite. In 1718 he and Francis Mundy, his brother-in-law, ‘undertook to bring 2,000 men well mounted into the field in the county’ in the event of a rising to restore the Stuarts.1Stuart mss 216/111. Returned unopposed for the county in 1727, he was absent from the division on the civil list arrears in 1729, but voted against the Administration in subsequent divisions. He died 30 July 1733.
