In Dupplin’s list of 1754 Chetwynd was classed as a country gentleman supporting Administration. He appears in Fox’s list of Members favourable to the peace preliminaries (early December 1762). In autumn 1763 Jenkinson first classed him as ‘pro’, then ‘doubtful’. He voted against the Grenville Administration over general warrants, 15 and 18 Feb. 1764, and was classed by Newcastle, 10 May, as a doubtful friend. He died v.p. in the south of France, February 1765.
