Cresswell was returned at Cirencester after a contest against the Bathurst interest. In Parliament he voted regularly with Administration. There is no record of his having spoken in the House. In 1774 he was defeated at Cirencester.
He died 4 July 1823 ‘at a very advanced age, at Bath, whither he had been removed ... by order of the lord chancellor’.1Gent. Mag. 1823, ii. 93.
