Howorth voted for Shelburne’s peace preliminaries, 18 Feb. 1783, and was classed a few weeks later as a follower of his; possibly Howorth’s return for Abingdon, in place of John Mayor, was arranged by Administration. Only one speech by him is reported, in a debate on the vagrancy laws. An enthusiastic amateur yachtsman, he was drowned in a sailing accident, 11 May 1783. The Gentleman’s Magazine (1783, i. 453) described him as ‘one of the first Crown lawyers in practice’, and as having made 7,600 guineas during the previous year.
