Returned for Bodmin in a contested election, Hunt was classed as a follower of the Portland-Fox Opposition both in William Adam’s list of 1784 and in North’s list of 1788. He voted steadily against Pitt. On 2 Dec. 1788, R. Burton wrote to Lord Sandwich1Royal archives, Windsor. that his ‘Western friend’2Identified in Sandwich’s covering letter of same date, ibid. had said the following words which he allowed Burton to write down and send to Sandwich:

that he should be for the sole Regency of the Prince of Wales and that he hoped in any Administration under that Regency, he should always vote in support of their measures.

He further authorized Sandwich ‘to acquaint the Prince of Wales with this determination’.

There is no record of his having spoken in the House. He died 11 Oct. 1789.
