LEVETT, John (1721-99), of Lichfield, Staffs.

biography text

Levett stood for Lichfield in 1761 as the candidate of the independent party opposed to the influence of Lord Gower. He received 313 votes, two less than Hugo Meynell who came second on the poll; but on a scrutiny the sheriff struck off seven of Meynell’s votes, and Levett was returned. There is no record of his speaking or voting in the House. He was unseated on petition, and is not known to have stood for Parliament again.

Levett died 22 Nov. 1799.
