At the general election of 1754 Edwin Lascelles, M.P. for Scarborough since 1744, intended to stand again but withdrew when Milbanke announced his candidature; Milbanke was supported by Administration and returned without a poll.

He was connected with Lord Holdernesse, the leading peer in the North Riding and the chief rival in county affairs to Rockingham, and in 1761 was returned by Holdernesse for Richmond. He supported every Administration, 1761-8, without apparently ever speaking in the House. In 1762 Holdernesse sold his interest at Richmond to Sir Lawrence Dundas, and Milbanke did not stand in 1768.

He died 8 Jan. 1798.
