biography text
The Swinburnes were an old Roman Catholic family. Sir Edward, 5th Bt., in his old age conformed to the Church of England; and his eldest son, who seems to have been educated as a Roman Catholic, also conformed. He was returned for Launceston by Hugh, 2nd Duke of Northumberland, and like his patron voted against Pitt on the Regency. Three speeches by him are reported—two on the Regency, and one on a bill about hawkers and pedlars.
He died 26 Sept. 1860.
