Butler was one of the Irish county Members who joined opposition to the Union in February 1800.1Cornwallis Corresp. iii. 182; HMC Fortescue, vi. 118. He had not taken his seat at Westminster by 25 Mar. 1801 and made no mark there. In the chief secretary’s list of Irish Members in 1801, ‘Tony Lumpk[in]’ appears against his name. He was defeated in 1802. In 1807 his heir aspired to the seat. Butler died 16 Jan. 1817.2Gent. Mag. (1817), i. 183 gives 15 Jan.
