biography text

Hickman contested East Retford on his father’s interest in 1710, and was seated on petition. A Tory, he was listed among the ‘worthy patriots’ who in 1710–11 detected the mismanagements of the previous administration, and was a member of the October Club. He made no significant contribution to Commons’ business during his brief period at Westminster, and died in the course of the second session. He was buried at Gainsborough on 16 May 1712.
