EVERSFIELD, John (c.1624-78), of Charlton Court, Steyning, Suss.

Eversfield’s first marriage must have been fortunate for a younger son, for in 1652 he was able to buy Charlton Court for £4,500, and in the list of proposed knights of the Royal Oak his income was estimated at £1,500 (more than twice his elder brother’s) . He was returned to the Convention for Steyning at a by-election when his cousin Henry Goring I chose to serve for the county. Like his brother Edward, he made no speeches and served on no committees, but presumably supported the Court. He was buried at Steyning on 22 May 1678.Add. 5698, f. 248v.
