MONTAGU, Hon. Charles (c.1658-1721), of Belford, Northumb. and Durham.

Montagu was appointed constable of Durham Castle and spiritual chancellor of the diocese by his uncle, Bishop Crew. He was returned for the city to James II’s Parliament, in which he was probably entirely inactive. He accepted the Revolution and regained his seat as a court Whig in 1695. He died at Breda and was buried at Barnwell All Saints on 29 June 1721. His son sat for Chippenham from 1708-10 and for Camelford from 1715-22 as a Whig.Collins, Peerage, iii. 464; Barnwell par. reg.
