VERNON, Thomas (1724-71), of Hanbury Hall, Worcs.

Vernon was returned for Worcester in 1754 after his opponent withdrew just before the poll, and was listed by Dupplin as ‘doubtful’. When in March 1755 Newcastle was making frantic efforts over the Mitchell election petition, Lord Cornbury applied to Vernon who, however, replied that he could do no more than stay away, having engaged to ‘several of the principal people on the other side, who were obliging to me in Mr. Molyneux’s affair’Add. 32853, f. 259. (i.e. over the Haslemere petition against the return of his cousin, James More Molyneux).

Vernon declined to stand in 1761, and died 9 Dec. 1771.
