As their parents’ marriage was licensed in Oct. 1417, it is reasonable to assume that the younger brother was not born before 1419. 2nd s. and event. h. of Sir Hugh Courtenay† (d.1425) of Haccombe, Devon, by his 4th w. Maud (d.1467), da. of Sir William Beaumont of Heanton Punchardon, Devon. While The Commons 1386-1421, ii. 669 has Hugh as one of two brothers, Maud Courtenay’s will mentions a further son, Walter: PCC 24 Marche (PROB11/2A, f. 172). m. by 14 Oct. 1441, Reg.
