s. and h. of William Rody (fl.1435) of Warwick. In the earlier biography, in The Commons 1386-1421, iv. 225-6, it is suggested that he was the son of the Warwick goldsmith, John Rody, and brother of Nicholas*. Two deeds of 1435, however, show that his father was named William: Shakespeare Centre Archs., Ferrers mss, DR3/222-3. This William is, in turn, to be distinguished from the William murdered in Warwick in 1427: JUST3/68/8, m. 3. Since two Williams, described as ‘senior’ and ‘junior’, attested the Warwick election of 1426, it is possible that the murdered man was our MP’s brother: C219/13/4. educ. adm. L. Inn by Christmas 1424. m. Cecily (fl.1443).
