Booth’s service as clerk of the statute merchant and coroner in his native town were omitted from the earlier biography. The Commons 1386-1421, ii. 293. His nomination to the latter office suggests that his local importance may have lain in legal expertise. This would explain why he was so frequently found as a feoffee for his fellow gentry in the palatinate, including for William Lambton* and his son Robert*. DURH3/43, m. 11; 46, m. 8.
