Craye’s parentage has not been established beyond reasonable doubt, but it is likely that he was a kinsman, perhaps a son, of the widow Alice Craye, who between 1418 and 1423 was party to several grants of property in Devizes. One of these saw her settle a tenement with a courtyard in Newport on her daughter, another Alice.
