There is, however, some doubt over Pitt’s membership of the Parliament of 1425, for the election indenture (to which Pitt set his seal as an attestor) names Bridgwater’s MPs as William Gascoigne II* and John Gonne*, whereas in the accompanying schedule Pitt’s name replaced that of Gonne. As the latter alteration was evidently made as an afterthought and over an erasure, it is probable that it was Pitt who took the seat. C219/13/3.
