Although impossible to identify for certain, Raad was probably a native of Huntingdon or the wider county of Huntingdonshire. In 1459 William Raad, a ‘smyth’ from Huntingdon, was obliged to answer Joan Sturdy, a widow from London, in the court of common pleas. She alleged that he owed her £8, a debt arising from a bond made between the parties at Westminster in November 1457. CP40/792, rot. 330d. It is likely that William was a relative of the MP, as perhaps was the John Raade who was a feoffee for Henry Gymber‡ at Hail Weston, Huntingdonshire. C1/49/6.
