This MP, named ‘Froud’ in the electoral return, proved to be hard to identify. The Commons 1386-1421, iii. 141 It seems, however, that his name was more usually spelled ‘Frend’. In the spring of 1396, a year after he sat in the Commons, Thomas Frend was being pursued in the courts for a debt of £20 by the executors of Thomas Lote† of Chippenham (the testator’s widow Edith and John Harsrygge). The suit also confirms that he lived in the town he represented in Parliament. CP40/541, rot. 125.
