There is a possibility that Gay was the same man as Richard Mautravers*, who had twice represented Portsmouth earlier in the 1380s, for his younger namesake, the Richard Gay who was to sit for the borough in 1447 and 1467, was also known as Richard Mautravers: HP ed. Wedgwood 1439-1509, Biogs. 366.
