WYNNE, Robert Watkin (?1755-1806), of Garthmeilio, Corwen, Merion. and Plas Newydd, Henllan, Denb.

Wynne was returned for the county on the Wynnstay interest during the minority of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn. Thanks to an arrangement whereby the latter came in for Beaumaris on coming of age, Wynne retained his seat until the dissolution of 1796, when he gave way to Sir Watkin, who made him deputy steward of the lordship of Bromfield and Yale.NLW mss 12416, Ld. Bulkeley to John Lloyd, 7 Aug. 1795. While in Parliament he voted with opposition on Grey’s Oczakov motion, 12 Apr. 1791, and was counted favourable that month to repeal of the Test Act in Scotland. After an interval,Wynne was excused attendance owing to illness, 4 Mar. 1793, CJ, xlviii. 318. he was again in the minority on the Sheffield petition for reform, 2 May 1793; on Grey’s motion to indemnify the landing of foreign troops, 14 Mar., and in support of Wilberforce’s peace amendment, 30 Dec. 1794; against further suspension of habeas corpus, 23 Jan.; in favour of Grey’s peace motions of 26 Jan. and 6 Feb. and Wilberforce’s of 27 May, and against the imperial loan, 5 Feb. 1795. He was also in the minority on the Prince of Wales’s debts, 1 June, and on 25 Nov. 1795 he voted against the seditious meetings bill. No speech is known. His only son married in 1797 a daughter of Dr Samuel Parr, the Whig savant. He died 2 Mar. 1806 ‘in his 51st year’.Salopian Jnl. 12 Mar. 1806.
