FANE, Hon. Henry (1739-1802), of Fulbeck, nr. Grantham, Lincs.

In 1762 Fane’s father unsuccessfully attempted to have him appointed to the commissionership of taxes vacated by his brother.

In Parliament he regularly supported Administration till the fall of North; voted against Shelburne’s peace preliminaries, 18 Feb. 1783; was classed as a follower of North by Robinson, March 1783, and voted for Fox’s East India bill, 27 Nov. 1783. Robinson in his electoral survey of December 1783 wrote that Lord Westmorland’s family was ‘in future likely to be more than hopeful with civility and management’,Laprade, 85. but in the Stockdale list of 19 Mar. and in Adam’s list of May 1784 Fane appears as ‘contra’. He voted against Administration on Richmond’s fortifications plan, 27 Feb. 1786; but with them on the Regency, 1788-9. There is no record of his having spoken in the House before 1790.

He died 4 June 1802.
