DAMER, Hon. Lionel (1748-1807).

Lionel Damer was considered for East Grinstead in 1783. On 9 May Lord Sackville wrote to General Irwin, who was leaving Parliament:HMC Stopford-Sackville, i. 144. ‘Your successor was to have been Mr. Lionel Damer, but his uncle did not approve of his being in Parliament.’

Like his brother George, Lionel Damer was closely connected with Lord Fitzwilliam. On 27 July 1784 he told Fitzwilliam he was willing to stand for Peterborough if a vacancy occurred, but could not pay more than £1,500 for his seat.Fitzwilliam mss, Northants RO. He was returned in 1786, but only after it had become clear that the town would not accept Lord John Cavendish.Bp. of Peterborough to Fitzwilliam, 29 Aug. 1785, ibid. He voted in opposition with Fitzwilliam and his brother George. His one recorded speech before 1790 was on a private bill promoted by his father.5 May 1785, Stockdale, vi. 50.

He died 28 May 1807.
